The Weekly Wine Journal | Best of 2010 list

This is a list of the best wines I sampled in 2010.  Only wines that I have actually sampled are on this list.  In addition only wines that I sampled an entire bottle of are on the list . The criteria is based on my subjective opinion, my initial impression as well as my over-all impression relative to all the other wines that I sampled in 2010.

Best “Drink Now” Wine: Altaumra 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley.  Robert Craig 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain.  Corison 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley.

Best “Buy and Hold” Wine: Cameron Hughes Lot 200, 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley.   M by Michael Mondavi 2006 Napa Valley.   Chateau Nenin 2005 Pomerol.

Best Value under $20: Layer Cake 2008 Malbec, Mendoza Argentina.  Loosen Brother’s  Dr. L.  2009 Riesling Mosel, Germany.   Catena Vineyards, 2008 Chardonnay, Mendoza Argentina.

Honorable mention: Page Springs Cellars 2009 MSGp, Cochise County, Arizona.  Orofino Vineyards, 2008 Beleza, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia Canada.   Clos du Soliel Red, 2007, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, Canada.

Best Wine Bar *: Salt Tasting Room, Vancouver British Columbia. oENOlogy, San Diego.

* Best Wine Bar was based on knowledgeable staff, appropriate stemware, wine and food pairings, wine list and atmosphere.
